Endicott Falls to Wellesley in Four in Front of Animated Crowd

In the night cap of the tri-match, Endicott and Wellesley squared off in an intense match that saw a rowdy crowd provide quite the nice spark for the home team and created a great atmosphere for an opening weekend event.  The two teams battled before Endicott fell in four.  Set scores were 15-25, 25-19, 26-24 and 25-18.

The Gulls were led again by Callie Dolan who tied for the team high in kills with 11 while also hitting at a .310 clip.  Sophomore Mackenzie Guerre matched Dolan's 11 kills and hit at a .333 clip for the match while fellow sophomore Lexi Watts (San Diego, Calif.) pitched in with eight kills and a .316 clip of her own.  Dolan also led the Gulls in total blocks with three as Guerre and Watts each picked up two.  Freshman Lilly Benabou (Medway, Mass.) provided a great defensive spark and picked up nine digs.  Alleigh VandeMerkt directed a steady offense as she picked up 36 assists and six digs.  Endicott out-blocked Wellesley 7-5.

Wellesley proved to be too much for Endicott, especially Caitlin Laughlin and Sydney Carfagno.  The duo put up 12 kills each as Laughlin hit .476 for the match and Carfagno also picked up 13 digs.  Wellesley's Maddie Koh ran a very efficient offense as she led the team to a .234 hitting percentage en route to tallying 47 assists.  Courtney Lang an Megan Mills each chipped in with 10 kills as Traci Hamanaka led the defense with 18 digs.

Endicott is now off until Friday when they play host to Plymouth State and Williams on the opening day of the Endicott Invitational.  Match times are scheduled for 5 and 7 pm.
