Endicott Falls to #23 Southwestern 3-0

MEDFORD, Mass.- The Endicott women's volleyball team fell to the #23 team in the country, Southwestern, 3-0 in their first match of the day on Sunday.  The Gulls were led by the freshman duo of Mackenzie Guerre (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Lexi Watts (San Diego, Calif.) as they combined to record 14 kills in the match.  Endicott now takes on the 2011 National runner up #4 Christopher Newport at 2 p.m.

A day after the Gulls played well against regional power UMass Boston and beat Tufts in four, the Gulls fell in three by set scores of 15-25, 15-25 and 15-25.  Endicott could only manage to hit .094 for the match as Southwestern hit an impressive .301.  Guerre recorded nine kills and three errors on 21 attempts for a .286 average that led the Gulls.  Watts managed five kills and two errors on 13 attempts as she hit .231.  Alleigh VandeMerkt (Riverside, Ill.) continued her impressive play as the setter recorded 21 assists to go along with five digs.  Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.) was once again outstanding as she picked up 21 digs.  Hannah Dahlgren (Queensbury, N.Y.) led Endicott in blocking as the sophomore middle picked up one solo and two assist blocks.  

Southwestern (TX) was led by freshman Kaitlyn Foster (San Antonio, TX) as the outside recorded a match-high 12 kills on 28 attempts with only three errors for a .321 hitting percentage.  Foster also led the team in digs with 14.  Junior Meredith Rollins (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was second for the Pirates as she picked up 11 kills and four errors on 30 attempts.  Freshman middle Olivia Drummond (San Antonio, TX) was error-free as she picked up six kills on 12 attempts.  Lacey Strickland (Englewood, Colo.) ran the offense well as she picked up 27 assists and nine digs.  

Endicott next takes on 2011 national runner-up and current #4 team in the country Christopher Newport.  Match time is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
