Endicott Gets Back to Winning Ways Against Mt. Ida

BEVERLY, MASS.-  The Endicott Women's Volleyball team got out to a strong start and never looked back to get their second win of the season.  The Gulls were able to defeat the Mustangs of Mount Ida 3-0 in their first match of the MIT Invitational.

Endicott was able to ride the scorching hot hand of Callie Dolan (Westford, Mass.) throughout the match as the junior outside was able to register 13 kills on 25 error-free swings for a .520 average.  The Gulls offense on a whole was very impressive as the team hit .300 while limiting Mt. Ida to -.146.

Freshman setter Alleigh VandeMerkt (Riverside, Ill.) showed great decision making in guiding the team to the impressive average.  VandeMerkt was able to tally 27 assists in the three set match, good enough for an average of 9.00/set.  The setter was also able to contribute on defense by picking up six digs.

Senior Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.) was once again the defensive anchor as she was able to dig up 16 Mustang attacks.  Freshman Mackenzie Guerre (Carlsbad, Calif.) was an offensive force as she notched four kills on eight attempts.  Freshman Lexi Watts (San Diego, Calif.) and junior Carly Beers (Traverse City, Mich.) were impressive from the serving line as they were able to collect four and three aces respectively.

Mount Ida was led offensively by Shay Collins (Londonderry, N.H.) and Trudy Goetchius who tallied four kills each.  Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, Mass.) and Julie Smith (Richmond, R.I.) each recorded six assists as Jennifer Ferreira (Shirley, Mass.) collected eight digs.

Endicott now faces Springfield in the nightcap as Mt. Ida faces Bowdoin.  Springfield, currently ranked #6 in the most recent New England poll, was able to take down previously undefeated #1 Bowdoin in four sets during the 5 p.m. matches.
