BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott’s \#Steph Wiese\# (Higganum, Conn.) notched her sixth kill of the night in the second set to become the program’s all-time kill leader, as she helped the Gulls ease past TCCC opponent Regis College, 3-0, on Tuesday night in Beverly, Mass. Wiese finished the night with six kills, improving the new career record to 1,306. Wiese surpasses former program-leader Sarah Moore’s (Class of 2006) mark of 1,305.
Wiese and the Gulls got off to a hot start, cruising to a 25-7 opening-set victory. Wiese posted four kills on nine swings with just one error in the opening game (.333), while also adding three digs in the night’s first game. Junior \#Brittany Phillips\# (Sudbury, Mass.) also chipped in with three kills in game one, while \#Elyse Barbour\# (Greenville, R.I.) had two kills and two blocks in the 25-7 win.
Wiese tied the program record early in the second set off a pass from Barbour to make it 6-1 in favor of Endicott. Moments later, the Gulls’ senior took sole possession of the record as she made good on a third attempt off a set by freshman \#Mollie Postma\# (Everett, Wash.), converting a kill on the far side. Wiese, who just so happen to be next in Endicott’s serving rotation, went on to notch two service aces during the run before being subbed out with the Gulls ahead 14-4. The Blue and Green went on to win the set, 27-7.
In the final set of the evening, Endicott cruised to a 25-14 win. Freshman right side \#Jessica Kennedy\# (Avon, Conn.) hit at a .667 clip in the third game, notching six kills on nine swings with no errors.
Endicott presented a well-rounded attack as no player had more than six kills. Junior \#Ally Murphy\# (Gilford, N.H.) had 11 assists and seven digs, while Wiese finished with six kills and seven digs. The Gulls combined for three solo and eight assisted blocks in the three-set sweep.
Regis was led by Lauren Ross’ (Dracut, Mass.) five kills while teammate Caitlin Luquet (Walnut Creek, Calif.) dished out 11 assists. Sophomore libero Lilian Silva (Chelsea, Mass.) had 12 digs for the Pride. Only two Regis players had more than three kills on the evening.
Endicott returns to action on Wednesday when the Blue and Green travel to Brunswick, Maine to face the Polar Bears of Bowdoin College at 7:00 p.m. Regis looks to rebound on Saturday when the Pride host a tri-match against Daniel Webster and Colby beginning at 11:00 a.m.
