CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After dropping a three-set loss to NESCAC power Williams College, Endicott responded by defeating Smith College, 3-1, to open the 2009 MIT Invitational Tournament with a 1-1 record on Friday evening in Cambridge, Mass. The Gulls will square-off with Vassar College on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.
Endicott fell to the Ephs, 25-16, 26-19 and 25-8 to open the invitational tournament. The Gulls got six kills and five digs from junior \#Brittany Phillips\# (Sudbury, Mass.), while freshman \#Ashley Norley\# (Sudbury, Mass.) had 16 digs for the Blue and Green. Senior \#Steph Wiese\# (Higganum, Conn.) had five kills and seven digs. Junior \#Ally Murphy\# (Nashua, N.H.) registered 10 assists in the setback.
After the defeat, the Gulls moved on to face Smith College. Endicott responded by posting a 19-25, 25-22, 25-20 and 25-23 win. Phillips was once again big on the outside, securing 14 kills, 11 digs and two aces for the Gulls. Wiese ended the night with a 13 kill and three ace effort in the second match, while freshman \#Mollie Postma\# (Everett, Wash.) had 21 assists.
