Endicott Takes Third at Wellesley Invitational

WELLESLEY, MA - The Endicott College women's volleyball team beat Bridgewater State College but lost to the University of Michigan at Dearborn and host Wellesley College going 1-2 at the Wellesley Volleyball Invitational and taking third place.

The Blue and Green dropped their first match to Michigan-Dearborn 3-0, falling 30-18, 30-11 and 30-21. The Wolves, 19-13 on the year, finished 2-1 in the Wellesley Invitational, good enough for second place. Outside hitter Jamie Wozniak paced Michigan-Dearborn with 17 kills, while Renee Laidler shared the setting duties with Kelly Dankert, with 25 and 15 assists, respectively.

Steph Wiese (Higganum, CT/Haddam-Killingworth), Brittany Phillips (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln Sudbury), and Brittany Nolan (Monroe, CT/Masuk) led Endicott, with five kills each while Casey Ward had 14 assists, and Nolan added 10 digs. The Gulls fell to 0-2 on the day after losing to tournament champion Wellesley College, 3-0.

The Blue (20-3) clinched the tournament win with their 30-26, 30-17, 30-24 sweep of the Gulls. Wiese once again paced Endicott with 10 kills, while setter Meghan Hall (Santa Cruz, CA/Aptos) distributed 27 assists. Hayley Janelle (Madbury, NH/Oyster River) led all players with six blocks, and Nolan tallied 14 digs.

Despite 18 kills for Bridgewater State's Kelsey Collasius, the Gulls snagged a three-game sweep of the Bears in their final match of the tournament. Phillips had ten kills to lead EC to the 30-27, 30-28, and 30-22, sweep while Janelle and Wiese chipped in with eight kills apiece. Hall tallied 28 assists and four aces and Nolan added 19 digs for the Blue and Green.

The Gulls move to 18-9 (6-0 TCCC) on the year after going 1-2 on the weekend. EC returns to action Tuesday afternoon when the Gulls play host to rival Gordon College at 7:00 p.m. in the McDonald Gymnasium. That game will be webcast on Endicott's free broadband channel Endicott All-Access.
