Gulls Take Two at Brandeis and Clark Trimatch

Sept. 11, 2004

Stats

Worcester, MA -- Endicott went 2-0 today, defeating Brandeis 3-0 (31-29, 30-26, 30-28) and Clark 3-1 (27-30, 30-23, 30-19, 30-16).  The day brought out several firsts for the Gulls.  It was the first time the Gulls have defeated the Judges of Brandeis and the first time EC has gone 2-0 at this annual trimatch.

The Gulls match with Brandeis was a nip and tuck affair with multiple lead changes in each game.  In the first game, following a time out at 27-27 the Gulls gave up the next 2 point only to rally and win the next 4 points and their first game of the match 31-29.  Games 2 and 3 saw the same type of contests with Endicott consistently coming up with big digs and timely blocks.

Freshman setter Meghan Hall did a terrific job spreading the offense around while collecting 40 assists.  Killeen Ross, Morgan Tranquist and Patty Mikan all had double-digit kill performances with 13, 12 and 10 respectively.  Susan Teta and Sara Moore helped to control the net combining for 6 blocks and Teta also led the team with 4 aces.  Libero Katie Lorinovich led the team with 23 digs and Hall was close behind with 19.

The second match of the day was against host Clark University.  Perhaps still reveling in their earlier victory the Gulls made too many unforced errors and dropped the first game 30-27.  Once again strong serving and timely digs turned the match in Endicott's favor.

Morgan Tranquist led the team with 13 kills this match followed by Killeen Ross' 12 and Patty Mikan's 10.  Meghan Hall again had the offense rolling, dishing out 42 assists and leading the team with 5 aces.  Katie Lorinovich dug up 22 balls and also helped to control the team's serve receive.

The Gulls now have a week to prepare for the start of CCC Play.  They will open their conference schedule with a trimatch at cross-town rival Gordon College next Saturday at 11:00 AM followed by a 1:00 PM matchup with Wentworth.
