Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.)/Fernanda Trevino (Dallas, Texas) then capitalized on the momentum from their teammates at No. 1 as the duo posted a hard-fought 8-6 win for the 3-0 advantage.

From there, Trevino and Hoover clinched the championship for the Gulls, sandwiched around a loss at No. 2 singles, in the No. 5 (6-1, 6-2) and No. 1 (6-0, 6-1) slots, respectively,
