CCC Championship: No. 1 Nichols Tops No. 3 Endicott, 5-3

Dudley, Mass. – The Nichols College women's tennis team claimed its fourth straight CCC championship title on Saturday afternoon with a hard-fought 5-3 win over Endicott at the Robinson Tennis Courts.

Nichols opened the match with a 2-1 lead after doubles taking No. 1 8-7, and No. 2 8-6.

For the Gulls, the team of Cameron Foley (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Olivia Berler (Marstons Mills, Mass.) secured an 8-5 victory at No. 3.

In singles play, the Gulls fought back as Ashley Keaveney (Exeter, N.H.) took a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 5, and Cara McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3.

The championship was ultimately decided at the No. 2 spot as Kara Stankewitz (Cologne, Germany) took a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 win at No. 2 to aid the Bison to their fourth straight CCC championship.

"I'm very proud of our group, we left it all out there," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo. "We have a lot of positives to take from the year. Credit to Nichols, they deserved it."

WHAT'S NEXT

Nichols (12-1) will represent the CCC in the NCAA Division III Tournament later this spring. Endicott sees its fall season come to a close at 11-3 overall.
