Endicott Takes Down Colby-Sawyer In Season Opener, 7-2

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's tennis team opened up its 2019 season with a 7-2 win over Colby-Sawyer on Sunday afternoon at the South Campus Courts. 

Endicott took two of three doubles matches and earned victories five out of six singles matches in today's contest. 

In doubles action, the team of Olivia Berler (Marstons Mills, Mass.) and Justine Hoover (Wallingford, Conn.) notched an 8-1 win at No. 2, while the duo of Cameron Foley, (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Cara McCormack, (Worcester, Mass.) came away with an 8-0 triumph at No. 3. 

Meanwhile, in singles action, Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.) (6-2, 6-1), Berler (6-0, 6-1), McCormack (6-0, 6-1), Ashley Keaveney (Exeter, N.H.) (6-1, 6-0), and Foley (6-0, 6-0), all collected wins at No. 2-6, in respective order.

"Today's win marked a nice starting point for our ladies," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo. "There were stretches where we fought ourselves a bit, but it was nice to see we could push through." 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 

  • Berler and Keaveney both recorded their first collegiate victories in today's match. 
  • This was the first win for the doubles team of Berler and Hoover. 
  • Yash Yang (Kunming City, China) was a double winner today for the Chargers. 
  • The Gulls have won three straight season openers. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (1-0) hosts Bridgewater State on Monday, September 2 at 12 PM. Colby-Sawyer (0-2) travels to Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday, September 4 for a 7 PM contest.
