CCC SEMIFINALS: Endicott Downs Gordon, 5-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – The second-seeded Endicott women's tennis team defeated third-seeded Gordon College, 5-0, on Tuesday evening in the semifinal round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament at the South Campus Tennis Courts.

In doubles action, Endicott's No. 2 pairing of Justine Hoover (Wallingford, Conn.) and Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine) got the match started with an 8-3 victory. Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Fernanda Trevino (Dallas, Texas) followed with an 8-5 triumph at the No. 1 position, while Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) and Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) concluded the sweep with an 8-3 win at No. 3.

Meanwhile, in singles play, Trevino made it a 4-0 match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 and then Hoover clinched the match moments later with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the No. 2 position.

"Great effort out there, top to bottom," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "Doubles set us off on the right foot and then kudos to our two freshmen in the singles lineup for clinching in their first career playoff match."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • With today's semifinal win, Endicott will now advance to its eighth straight CCC Championship and ninth total since 2009-10.
  • The Gulls are 5-1 at home this season.
  • Endicott has won 12 or more matches in seven out of the eight last seasons.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (12-1) will play first-seeded Nichols in the CCC Championship this Saturday in Dudley, Mass. at 1 PM. Gordon sees its 2018 fall season come to a close at 7-5 overall.
