Endicott Competes At NEWITTs

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team wrapped up day one of the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) on Friday afternoon at the campus of Mount Holyoke College.

Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.), Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.), and Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.) highlighted the Gulls' efforts on the day as the trio won all three of their matches against Trinity.

Barnett and Fitzgibbons posted an 8-6 victory in doubles play, while Barnett and Hartman then produced wins in their singles matches with scores of 6-4, 6-3 and 4-6, 6-4, 10-4, respectively.

Meanwhile, Endicott's other team in the tournament consisting of Alexandra Barmore (Southington, Conn.), Alexi Losano (Saugus, Mass.), and Cara McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) went 4-2 in their two rounds of action.

Against Gordon, Losano picked up Endicott's lone win in the draw with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph in singles. The Gulls then bounced back against Mount Holyoke with a sweep in that matchup. McCormack and Barmore turned in an 8-1 victory in doubles play, while Losano and Barmore both notched wins in singles via scores of 8-1 and 8-6, respectively.

The NEWITT format is a best of three scenario where both the singles and doubles rounds count as one point to the overall team score. Each pairing either advances to the championship round of their draw or gets placed in a consolation tournament depending on their result. Each pairing is guaranteed at least two rounds of play at NEWITTs.

WHAT'S NEXT

Both of Endicott's pairings will continue play tomorrow on day two of NEWITTs in Western, Mass.
