Women’s Tennis Doubles Up Simmons, 6-3

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team earned a 6-3 non-conference victory over Simmons College on Sunday afternoon at the South Campus Tennis Courts.

Endicott held a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of doubles as the Gulls received wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.

Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) and Jamie Zompa (Marlborough, Mass.) claimed a 9-7 triumph at No. 2, while Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) and Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) posted an 8-4 win at No. 3 to help the Gulls claim their the 2-1 advantage in doubles.

In singles play, Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.) registered a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 4 to retake the lead (3-2) for Endicott after Simmons started off the singles portion of the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2.

Alexi Losano (Saugus, Mass.) followed Freter with a 6-4, 6-1 win in the No. 6 slot and Fitzgibbons clinched the match moments later via a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 3.

Rhodes picked up the final point of the day for the Gulls with a 4-6, 6-0, 10-7 victory at No. 5.

"I'm happy with the way our team played today against a tough opponent in Simmons, who will make its eighth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament later this spring," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "We will now shift our focus towards our final regular season match against Brandeis next Wednesday, and continue to prepare for NCAAs as well."

Endicott (14-3) travels to Brandeis next Wednesday for a non-conference matchup at 3 p.m. Simmons (10-7) will be off until the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on May 12 with the opponent, time and location all to be determined.
