Suzie Newman Collects CCC Player of the Week Honors

CCC Athletes of the Week - Week Ending September 14th

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Endicott junior Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.) received her first collegiate weekly award as she was recognized as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week for her efforts this past week in team victories over Nichols and Western New England to secure the Gulls' position atop the conference standings.

Newman went 3-0 in three matches, two singles and one doubles flight, including a #5 singles showdown against Ashley Dallaire from Nichols last Tuesday that handed Endicott a 5-4 victory over the Bison. Newman won the first set over Dallaire 6-2, but the second set went to a tiebreaker with the two players tied 6-6. Darkness forced the match to be moved to an indoor facility where Newman regrouped and won the second set 7-6 (7-0).

On Saturday, Newman helped the Blue and Green shutout Western New England 9-0 behind an 8-1 #3 doubles victory with junior partner Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.) and a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set win over Golden Bears opponent Christina D'Agostino at the #3 singles position.

Newman is now 6-1 combined in singles and doubles action in 2014 with a 2-0 record with Potter in doubles and 4-1 mark across the third, fourth, and fifth singles flights. Newman's versatility has helped the Endicott women's tennis team own a 4-1 (3-0 CCC) record this fall.

Newman and the Gulls have three road matches this week, two of which are against CCC opponents. On Wednesday and Thursday, Endicott takes on North Shore Cup rivals Gordon and Salem State before going into Boston on Saturday to face Wentworth (at Harvard).
