Women’s Tennis Soars over Clark to Open Up Spring Season

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team traveled to Clark (Mass.) on Saturday afternoon to kick off their spring season. The Gulls are coming off a strong fall that led them to their third consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship. Endicott swept the Cougars 9-0 as they head into Wednesday, April 16th when they travel to Springfield at 3:30 p.m. The Gulls improve to 12-3 on the season.

In doubles play the Blue and Green started off strong. In the #1 slot junior Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and partner Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) defeated their opponents 8-2. In the #2 slot sophomore Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.) and sophomore Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.) played the toughest match of the afternoon eventually coming out with the 9-7 decision. To wrap it up freshmans Jamie Zompa (Marlborough, Mass.) and Skyelar MacLeod (Portsmouth, R.I.) earned an 8-0 victory by default in the #3 slot.

In singles play (#1) Heacox took her opponent 6-2, 6-4 while (#2) Rhodes (6-0, 6-1), and (#3) Newman (6-0, 6-2) finished in the top three spots. Wrapping up the match (#4) Potter (6-2, 6-1) and (5) sophomore Savannah Deady (Andover, Mass.) (6-2, 6-1) finished up singles play. Freshman Kelsey Lawrence also earned a victory on the afternoon by default in the #6 slot to take the 9-0 triumph.
