Endicott opens spring schedule with loss to Babson

BEVERLY, Mass. –
Playing in preparation of the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Tournament, Endicott opened up the spring portion of their schedule with a 9-0 defeat at home against Babson.  The Gulls dropped to 14-2 overall for the 2011-12 season.

The Beavers, who made it to the NEWMAC Semifinals during the fall season, improved to 10-3.

Babson handled Endicott in all three doubles matches with relative ease minus an 8-5 showing by sophomore Emilie Cloutier (Lewiston, Maine) and freshman Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) at the \#3 position.  The duo had gone 11-0 in the fall with a 6-0 mark in CCC matches.

In singles play, junior Gina Pinciaro (Beverly, Mass.) fought hard with her \#6 singles opponent Courtney Fischer (Greenwich, Conn.) but fell 6-3, 6-2.  

Babson freshman Alex Freeman (Medfield, Mass.) earned wins at the \#1 singles and \#1 doubles with teammate Sarah Whitaker (Dellwood, Minn.) to lead the Beavers.  Rebecca Stone (Dover, Mass.) and Minte Tamoshunas (Pittsford, N.Y.) also had dual success in both singles and doubles play for the visitors.

Endicott will host Bentley on Thursday, February 23rd at 3:30 pm at Bass River Tennis Club before taking a month off from competition.
