Endicott Plays to 1-1 Draw Against Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Endicott women's soccer team opened up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play with a 1-1 draw against the Western New England Golden Bears on Saturday morning.

The Gulls and Golden Bears traded shots in the first half with each team pressuring offensively. The first half finished 0-0 with both teams recording two shots on target.

The Gulls broke through in the second half when Mary Verneris (Hamden, Conn.) scored her first goal of the season with Catherine Elkas (Holden, Mass.) providing the assist.

Western New England responded quickly with Kaeli Serafino (Ludlow, Mass.) scoring just two minutes later to tie the game at 1-1 and force overtime.

Endicott continued the offensive push with nine shots throughout both overtime periods, but ultimately the Golden Bear defense was able to hold on to keep the game knotted at 1-1.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott outshot the Golden Bears 25-11 and held the edge on corners 6-4.
  • Kayla Wentworth (Taunton, Mass.) recorded three saves during the contest.
  • Western New England's keeper Marissa Veilleux (Newington, Conn.) made ten saves in the match to preserve the draw.
  • Endicott is now 12-4-1 all-time against Western New England.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (1-2-3, 0-0-1 CCC) will host Wheaton (Mass.) on Wednesday, September 19 for a 7 PM start. Western New England (3-2-1, 0-0-1 CCC)  hosts Elms for a 4 PM start on Wednesday, September 19.
