Gulls Battle to a 1-0 Win

Stats

The women's soccer team matched up against a physical New England College squad in Commonwealth Coast Conference play. The Gulls scored early in the game, and held their 1-0 lead for the remainder of the match.

In the 4th minute of play, Leah Walters received a pass from Jillian Zagura at the midfield line. Dribbling at speed, Leah took it upon herself to take charge in the attack. Weaving in and out of three players, Leah beat the last defender, and scored the game winning goal early in the first half.

The Gulls continued to battle through the rough play of NEC throughout the first half, protecting their one goal advantage. The second half proved to be the same as the first, both teams fighting a tough battle. But the Gulls held their lead through the remainder of the game, and came away with a victory.

Sarah Nichols earned her sixth shutout of the season with the help of her defenders, Staci Wiencko, Lauren Suarez, Katie Cederberg, Meghan Sniegoski and Kelly Cosgrove.

The Gulls improve their overall record to 7-4 overall and 6-1 in the CCC.

This Saturday is Senior Day for five members of the team. Stacey Lubas, Katrina Perkins, Suarez, Walters and Nichols will all be recognized before the Anna Maria game. Kick off is 11a.m.
