Gulls Come Out on Top 4-0

Beverly, MA--Battling through the wind and rain, the EC women's soccer team defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference member Roger Williams by a score of 4-0. Freshman midfielder, Margreta Weber led the Gulls with two goals.

In the 7th minute, the Gulls opened up the scoring with a cross from sophomore forward, Caitlin D'Amario who found Jillian Zagura in the box. Zagura placed the ball in the side of the net, giving the Gulls an early 1-0 lead. Zagura would assist on the next goal, serving an outside ball which hit the cross bar. In perfect position for a rebound, Staci Wiencko tapped the ball into the net, adding to the Gulls lead.

In the second half, the Gulls continued to put pressure on the RWU defense. Weber would score her first collegiate goal in the 54th minute, capitalizing on a loose ball in the box. Twenty minutes later, Weber struck again, firing a shot on goal and capping the score at 4-0.

Goalkeeper Sarah Nichols recorded her third shutout of the season with the help of the defenders, Allison Lyons, Lauren Suarez, Katie Cederberg, Kelly Cosgrove and Wiencko.

The Gulls are 2-0 in CCC play, and matchup against conference member, Eastern Nazarene this Wednesday at ENC. Kick off is 3:30PM.
