EC Clinches First Place in the CCC

Oct. 21, 2003

In a big Commonwealth Coast Conference match-up, the Endicott Women's Soccer team defeated conference rival Wentworth 3-0. With the victory, the Gulls are now the CCC regular season champions and remain undefeated in the conference.

Stepping up big for the EC's offense, was junior forward Leah Walters. EC had eight shots, and with Walters taking five of those, she was able to find the back of the net twice. In the 28th minute, Walters ripped a shot from outside the 18 yard box, which sailed past the goalkeeper, giving EC a 1-0 lead. The play would shift back and forth between the two teams, and the score remained 1-0 at the half.

In the 54th minute of play, freshman Caitlin D'Amario passed a perfect through ball to Walters, who took her defender one-on-one. Taking the shot from the left side of the box, Walters would score her second goal of the game, giving EC a 2-0 cushion.

The Gulls would add to their lead in the 77th minute when senior co-captain Dana Schutz, off of a corner, found senior co-captain Kate Healey far post, who finished the play with a goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Tina Logudice would earn the shutout, but not without the help of her defense, which consisted of senior co-captain Jessica Scholz, junior Lauren Suarez, and freshmen Staci Wiencko and Meghan Sneigoski.

With the win, EC improves their CCC record to 11-0, and 13-2-1 overall. The Gulls have a break from conference play, when they travel to St. Joe's of Maine on Saturday October 25th.
