BEVERLY, MA - The Endicott College women's lacrosse team suffered a tough 16-9 loss to the visiting Wesleyan University Cardinals on Thursday afternoon.

The two teams battled back and forth early on trading goals for a large part of the first half. EC fell behind 3-2 but tied the game at three goals a piece when Shiori Tachiwana (Kanagawa, Japan) scored on a free position shot. The was even for much of the early goings but after seeing Endicott tie the game time and time again the Cardinals went on a four goal run extending their lead to 7-3.

The Gulls responded with back-to-back goals of their own from Valerie Feldman (Albany, NY/Guilderland) and Alex Pearce (Underhill, VT/Kimball Union Academy) to cut Wesleyan's lead to just two goals. Wesleyan's Sarah Orkin (West Hartford, CT/William Hall) would push the Cardinals lead to three again but Sara Gunter (Kennebunk, ME/Kennebunk) scored in the final minutes of the first half to send the Gulls into the locker room nipping at the heels of Wesleyan's 8-6 lead.

Wesleyan came out strong in the second half getting goals from Sophia Kim (Annapolis, MD/Key School), Orkin, and Elise Kaye (Sewickley, PA/Sewickley) and pushing their led to five at 11-6.

The Gulls pulled to within three getting goals from Rebecca Bushnell (Guilford, CT/Guilford), Molly Moss (Yarmouth, ME/North Yarmouth Academy), and Feldman making it 12-9 in favor of the Cardinals. Endicott ran out of gas in the final nine minutes as Wesleyan scored four goals in the in the closing minutes to seal the 16-9 win.

Feldman and Pearce each finished with two goals for the Gulls, while Sara Gunter had a goal and a pair of assists for EC. Sarah Orkin led the way for Wesleyan as she netted four goals for the Cardinals.

The Gulls fall to 2-1 overall and will head out on the road for a pair games, taking on Roger Williams on Saturday March 24, 2007 in Bristol, RI and Babson College on March 27, 2007 in Babson Park, MA. Endicott returns home on Saturday March 31 when the Gulls play hosts to CCC rival Nichols College.
