Gulls Opener Called Due to Weather

Feb. 25, 2007

BALTIMORE, MD - The Endicott College women's lacrosse team opened the 2007 season on the road today, as the Gulls squared off with Goucher College at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.

The Gophers got on the scoreboard first, quickly pulling out in front 1-0. Endicott rebounded by finding the back of the net eight straight times, building a dominating 8-1 lead. Goucher was able to tally one more score before the end of the half, trailing 8-2 at the intermission.

Treacherous weather conditions, including heavy snowfall and a predicted wintry mix, positioned itself over Homewood Field at JHU, creating an "unplayable" environment for both teams. Despite Endicott's large 8-2 lead at the break, the game will not be considered a victory. According to the NCAA Rulebook, a game is not official unless 80% (48 minutes in this situation) has been completed.

Disappointed with the final ruling, the Gulls early road trip was most certainly a success. Goucher went 9-7 last season, eventually losing in the Capital Athletic Conference Semifinals. Endicott will look to ride the momentum of their early season success into their March 7th home-opener with Keene State College. The Gulls and the Owls are slated to face-off at 4:00 PM in Beverly, MA.
