Jade Meier Named Finalist For Laura Hurd Award

AHCA Laura Hurd Award Finalists Release 

BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott women's ice hockey senior Jade Meier (Fairbanks, Alaska) has been named one of seven finalists for the 2020 Laura Hurd Award which is given to the top NCAA Division III women's ice hockey player in the country.  

Sponsored by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA), the Hurd Award honors the memory of former Elmira College standout Laura Hurd. A 2005 graduate of Elmira, and a four-time All-American, Hurd died in an automobile accident shortly after graduation. She was the recipient of the AHCA Player of the Year Award in 2005.

After a historic season where she became the programs, first-ever Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) Player of the Year, Meier becomes the first player in program history to be nominated for the Hurd award. 

The senior forward led the team in points (39), and assists (26) and was tied for first in game-winning goals (4). She was second on the team in goals (13) and tied for third in plus-minus (+21). 

In the CHC, Meier ranked first in points, and assists, tied for first in plus-minus, and third in goals.

Among all NCAA Division III women's ice hockey student-athletes, Meier ranked second in assists per game (.96) Meier ranked 11th in points per game (1.44).

Meanwhile, this season Meier set single-season records for points, assists, points per game, and assists per game. She also became Endicott's all-time leader in assists (62) and surpassed 100 career games. 

This year's recipient of the Laura Hurd Award will be announced on Thursday, March 26.

YEAR IN REVIEW 

Endicott went 25-2 overall and 16-0 in CHC play. The Gulls captured their second straight CHC championship with a 4-1 win over UNE on March 7. This season the Gulls set regular-season records for overall wins, and conference wins and earned their highest-ever national ranking of No. 7. Endicott was scheduled to take on Middlebury in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III women's ice hockey tournament, but the game was canceled as the NCAA made the decision to cancel all NCAA winter and spring championships due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
