BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's ice hockey team (19-4-4) will travel to Plattsburgh State (25-2-0) on Wednesday, March 6 at 5 PM to play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.
Tickets for Wednesday's contest can be purchased at the arena box office and prices are as follows: $6 for adults, $4 for students and senior citizens, $3 for children ages 3-12, and children ages two and under are free. The box office will open at 3:30 PM on Wednesday.
SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday's game will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
HOW THEY GOT HERE
Endicott defeated Morrisville State, 1-0, in overtime, on Sunday, March 3 in the Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) Championship game.
Jillian Gibbs (Burlington, Vt.) scored the game-winning goal 11 minutes into the extra frame off feeds from Jade Meier (Fairbanks, Alaska) and Maeve Moynihan (West Roxbury, Mass.) to lift the first-seeded Gulls past third-seeded Morrisville State. (BOX SCORE | RECAP)
Meanwhile, the first-seeded Cardinals won their second Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) title in the two-year history of the league on Saturday, March 2 with a dominant 5-0 win over third-seeded SUNY Cortland. (BOX SCORE | RECAP)
SCOUTING ENDICOTT
The team will look to several student-athletes to generate offense including Jillian Gibbs (Burlington, Vt.), Courtney Sullivan (North Yarmouth, Maine), Lexi Klein (Shoreview, Minn.), and Caroline Hughes (Andover, Mass.). Gibbs leads the team in goals (13), assists (11), and points (24). She also is first in the nation in game-winning goals (7).
Sullivan was named CHC Rookie of the Year and has contributed 10 goals and seven assists for 17 points.
CHC Goaltender of the Year Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) has an overall season record of 11-3-4 in net for the Gulls and she is ranked fourth nationally in GAA (1.077) and shutouts (7) and sixth in save percentage (.951).
SCOUTING PLATTSBURGH STATE
The Cardinals have been ranked in the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com national polls consistently throughout the season and have several key student-athletes they will look to throughout the contest. Annie Katonka (Pittsburgh, Pa.) ranks first nationally in power play goals (11), and second in both goals per game (1.04) and points per game (1.78). Mackenzie Millen (Anchorage, Alaska) currently ranks eighth in assists per game (.85).
Goaltender Kassi Abbott (Medford, Mass.) leads the nation in save percentage (.961), GAA (.672), and shutouts (13).
WHAT'S NEXT
The winner of Endicott/Plattsburgh State will take on the winner of Norwich/Williams in the quarterfinal round at the highest remaining seed on Saturday, March 9.
