First Period Barrage Sends Women’s Ice Hockey Past SUNY Canton, 5-1

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's ice hockey team turned in a 5-1 conference victory over SUNY Canton on Friday night at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.

After both teams were held scoreless for the majority of the first period, Endicott found the back of the net three times in a span of 2:56 to claim a 3-0 advantage and never looked back.

Gulls' senior forward Courtney Walpole (Allen, Texas) broke open the scoreless contest at the 14:25 mark, while Caroline Hughes (Andover, Mass.) and Mackenzie Mallett (York, Maine) followed with tallies at 15:52 (PP) and 17:21, respectively, to account for the offensive outburst in the first period.

From there, Courtney Sullivan (North Yarmouth, Maine) buried two more goals in the third period (1:05, 8:46) to round out the scoring for the Gulls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 10-0-0 in the all-time series against SUNY Canton.
  • The Gulls are 8-1-1 at home this season.
  • Endicott dominated play in the first period outshooting SUNY Canton, 17-2.
  • Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) made 17 saves to improve to 7-3-4 this season (47-18-10 all-time).
