Women’s Ice Hockey Blanks Stevenson, 4-0, To Remain Unbeaten On The Season

REISTERSTOWN, Md. – In a rematch of last year's Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) championship game, the Endicott women's ice hockey team came out on the winning end against Stevenson, 4-0, on Friday evening at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

The Gulls received goals from Jade Meier (Fairbanks, Alaska), Caroline Hughes (Andover, Mass.), Michaela McNamara (Warwick, R.I.), and Maggie Layo (Sandwich, Mass.) in the win, along with a season-high 32-save shutout from sophomore goaltender Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden).

Meanwhile, Stevenson sophomore netminder Caitie Darosa (Madison, Conn.) made 19 saves in the loss (2-2-0).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott ended Stevenson's 16-game home unbeaten streak (15-0-1).
  • Jonsson, who is 4-0-0 in goal this season, recorded her 11th career shutout in tonight's victory.
  • Jonsson's career-high for saves in a shutout is 34, which came against SUNY Canton last season on January 30, 2016.
  • Her 32-save shutout tonight ranks second-most among her 11 career shutouts.
  • Meier and Hughes both found the back of the net at 11:25 and 15:39 of the first period, respectively, while McNamara and Layo scored at 11:20 and 14:26 of the third.
  • Jillian Gibbs (Burlington, Vt.) dished out a career-high two helpers.

FOR THE FOES

  • Stevenson holds a 2-1-1 advantage in the all-time series.
  • The Mustangs were shutout for the first time this season.
