2016-17 Women’s Ice Hockey Season Preview

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's ice hockey team begins its 2016-17 season this Friday on the road versus Southern Maine at 7 p.m. Here's a preview of the upcoming season.

RETURNING CAST (ROSTER): Endicott returns over 90-percent of its scoring from last season including its top-5 point-getters in Lexi Klein (Shoreview, Minn.), Caroline Hughes (Andover, Mass.), Maggie Layo (Sandwich, Mass.), Meredith Vlachos (East Bridgewater, Mass.), and Courtney Walpole (Allen, Texas). Klein led the squad with 19 points (9g, 10a), while Hughes (15), Layo (15), Vlachos (9), and Walpole (8) followed in respective order.

Along with the majority of the offense coming back into the fold, the Gulls' defensive remains mostly intact with Ellen Carter (Roseville, Minn.), Danielle Comorre (Tujunga, Calif.), Holly Erbe (Woodbine, Md.), Meaghan Farragher (Bridgewater, Mass.), Kylie Hallam (West Barnstable, Mass.), and goaltender Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) who earned Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) Co-Rookie of the Year accolades last winter.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR (SCHEDULE): After their opening game against Southern Maine this Friday, Endicott hosts Johnson and Wales in a home-and-home series starting on Friday, November 4 at 7 p.m. in Raymond J. Bourque Arena. The Gulls will also take on Becker on November 12 at 2:30 p.m. before they welcome four teams to Beverly, Mass. in December including St. Michael's (12/3), William Smith (12/4), Wesleyan (12/9), and Nichols (12/10).

PRESEASON PLAUDITS (CHC POLL): Endicott earned 45 points, including four first place votes, to rank two points ahead of the defending CHC champion Stevenson University Mustangs in the preseason coaches' poll.
