Hughes, Jonsson Claim CHC Weekly Awards

CHC WEEKLY AWARDS RELEASE

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott freshmen Caroline Hughes (Andover, Mass.) and Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) have both earned weekly awards from the Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC), as announced by the league office earlier today. Hughes was named the CHC Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career, while Jonsson picked up her third career Goaltender of the Week honor.

Hughes led the Gulls to a 2-1-1 record over a four-game span from January 18-31 as the freshman forward potted three goals and dished out four assists. In a 5-1 win over SUNY Canton on January 29, Hughes tallied a single-game career-high three points by scoring one goal and tallying two assists. Throughout the four-game span, Hughes also registered one game-winning goal – which came against SUNY Canton on January 30 – one power play marker and scored the first goal of the contest in three out of four games. Two of her three goals from January 18-31 were also unassisted.

Meanwhile, Jonsson, who shares this week's award with Johnson & Wales University freshman Kami Weiner, posted a 1.47 goals against average and 124 saves (.954 save percentage) during the weekly award reporting period (Jan. 18-13) for the Gulls. Last Saturday against SUNY Canton, Jonsson recorded her sixth shutout of the season with a 34-save effort against the Kangaroos. Jonsson has now made 30 or more saves in six games this season.

Endicott (10-6-3, 6-1-1 CHC) hosts Morrisville State for a pair of conference games this Friday (7 PM) and Saturday (1 PM).
