Jonsson, Layo Pick Up Colonial Hockey Conference Weekly Awards

COLONIAL HOCKEY CONFERENCE WEEKLY RELEASE

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott freshman goaltender Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) and sophomore forward Maggie Layo (Sandwich, Mass.) have both earned weekly awards from the Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC), as announced earlier today by the league office. Jonsson was named Goaltender of the Week for the second time in her career, while Layo was tabbed as the Rookie of the Week along with Brittany Aiello of Becker College.

Jonsson posted a 2-1-0 record and compiled 83 saves in three starts last week for the Gulls. After falling to Trinity College in the opening round of the Codfish Tournament on Monday, Jonsson recorded 27 saves while surrendering only one goal in the third-place game against SUNY Canton. Jonsson followed that up with a career-high 36-save performance against Salve Regina as her team overcame a two-goal deficit to win 4-3 in regulation.

Layo notched three points on the week (2 goals and an assist) including her second career game-winning goal against Salve Regina on Saturday as the Gulls erased a 3-1 deficit against the Seahawks to notch the non-conference victory Layo, who earned her first career CHC weekly award today, ranks tied for second on the team in points (5g, 1a) and first overall in game-winning goals (tied for second in CHC).

Endicott (8-4-2) travels to Middlebury on Saturday, January 16 for a non-conference matchup at 3 p.m.
