MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The Endicott women's ice hockey team and Salve Regina University played to a 2-2 (OT) tie on Saturday night in non-conference action at the St. George's School Ice Rink.
Endicott took an early 1-0 lead in the contest at the 8:56 mark of the first period as Dynnea Bezona (Fairbanks, Alaska) buried her third goal of the season on feeds from Rachel Lustenring (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Michelle Robichaud (Yarmouth, Maine).
Danielle Phalon (Stoneham, Mass.) responded for Salve Regina later in the period when she potted her team-leading ninth tally of the 2015-16 campaign at 16:19.
In the second, Maggie Layo (Sandwich, Mass.) reclaimed the lead for the Gulls at the 5:26 mark on the power play via a slick pass by Maddy McNeally (Severna Park, Md.).
The Seahawks didn't go away quietly; however, as junior defenseman Amanda Cronin (Medfield, Mass.) finally found the equalizer at the 5:40 mark of the third period on passes by Taylor Chisholm (Discovery Bay, Calif.) and Meredith Peppes (Lincoln, R.I.).
Both goaltenders went on to combine for 14 saves and thwarted one power play chance apiece down the stretch to secure the tie.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott freshman goaltender Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) stopped a career-high 32 shots.
- Jonsson's previous career-high was 20, which she recorded in back-to-back contests against Stevenson University on November 20 and 21.
- Lustenring picked up her second assist of the year, while Robichaud and McNeally registered their first career assists in an Endicott uniform.
- Endicott is now 3-1-1 in road games this season.
FOR THE FOES
- Salve Regina junior goaltender Colleen Marcik (Madison, Conn.) compiled 22 saves.
- Cronin is now tied for second on the team in goals with five in eight games played.
- The Seahawks remain undefeated at home with tonight's tie (2-0-1).
