Southern Maine Defeats Women’s Ice Hockey, 3-0

GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine (USM) women's ice hockey team scored one goal in each period to defeat Endicott, 3-0, on Friday night at the USM Ice Arena.

Huskies' senior forward Cassandra Sherman (North Smithfield, R.I.) gave the hosts a 1-0 advantage late in the first (16:33, power play) when her shot in front of the crease trickled by Endicott freshman goaltender Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) into the back of the net.

In the second, Southern Maine added to its advantage at the 6:33 mark as junior forward McKenna Russell (Stoughton, Mass.) put home a give-and-go pass from classmate Lynn Kozlowski (Stoneham, Mass.) for her first goal of the season.

Kozlowski, who picked up an assist along with Kaleigh Heath (Jericho, Vt.) on the first tally of the contest, currently leads the Huskies' squad with four helpers so far during the 2015-16 campaign.

Sophomore defenseman Tatiana Doucette (Lynn, Mass.) capped the scoring at 13:50 of the third off of a rebound.

Southern Maine freshman goaltender Britney Evangelista (North Smithfield, R.I.) stopped 22 shots to pick up her second win, and shutout, of the season (2-1-1). Jonsson notched 17 saves in the loss (4-2-1).
