Salem State Edges Endicott, 48-44

SALEM, Mass. — The Vikings slipped past the Gulls, 48-44, thanks to an offensive outburst in the second half at the Twohig Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams kept things close throughout the entire game, with the Gulls holding a slight 11-9 edge after the first quarter. Endicott stretched the lead to 22-14 at the half. 

The Vikings went on a 13-0 run to open the third quarter. The remainder of the contest saw several ties and lead changes but ultimately the Vikings took the lead with just over 8 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and hung on to secure the 48-44 victory.

Emily Pratt (Gardner, Mass.) led the Gulls with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Lexi Gellerman (West Hartford, Conn.) also recorded nine rebounds. Kaleigh Putnam (Wallingford, Conn.) recorded a team-leading three blocks. 

For the Vikings, Kia Fernandes (Wareham, Mass.) recorded 17 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks. Gianna Moschella (Peabody, Mass.) posted 10 points and 10 rebounds.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Vikings hold the series lead 11-5 over the Gulls.
  • Salem State outshot the Gulls from the free throw line, with the Vikings going 15-27 and the Gulls going 5-9.
  • Fernandes and Moschella both registered double-doubles for the Vikings.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (4-4) hosts Husson on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 7 PM. Salem State (2-7) welcomes Eastern Connecticut State for a 3 PM game on Saturday, Dec. 29.
