BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's basketball team opened the 2018-19 season with a 65-57 loss to MIT on Sunday afternoon in MacDonald Gymnasium.
The first quarter was a close one with the Engineers holding a slight 13-12 advantage after 10 minutes of play.
Endicott battled during the start of the second frame which resulted in several lead changes between the two teams but ultimately, MIT took a 33-22 lead at the half.
The Engineers continued to up the offensive pressure in the third quarter which gave them a 53-37 advantage with one quarter remaining to be played.
With time winding down in the final stanza, the Gulls fought back to bring the deficit to seven points with just under three minutes left. However, MIT held on to secure the 65-57 victory.
Emily Pratt (Gardner, Mass.) led the Gulls with 23 points (8-25 FG, 4-9 3PT, 3-4 FT) and nine rebounds. For the Engineers, both Kylie Gallagher (Upton, Mass.) and Kara Holinski (Livonia, Mich.) recorded a team-leading 20 points.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Kaleigh Putnam (Wallingford, Conn.) dished out a team-high five assists, while Lexi Gellerman (West Hartford, Conn.) finished the game with eight points, eight rebounds, and two blocks.
- Christina Antonakakis (Holmdel, N.J.) led MIT in assists with eight and Sophie Gershon (New York, N.Y.) had a game-leading three steals.
- Endicott held a slight 42-40 rebound advantage throughout the contest.
- The Engineers now lead the all-time series 4-3 and have won the last four games.
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (0-1) travels to the campus of UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, Nov. 17 for a 7:30 PM game versus Suffolk. MIT (2-0) will face Heidelberg University on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the University of Chicago with a 1 PM tipoff.
