Endicott Sweeps WNE, 4-1 and 4-3, During CCC Doubleheader

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott softball team welcomed Western New England for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon and the Gulls came away with two victories. They won the first contest 4-1 and the second, 4-3. 

ENDICOTT 4, WNE 1

The Golden Bears jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second inning when Dina DiBlasi (Norwalk, Conn.) blasted a solo home run into right center. 

Endicott's Hayley Arduini (Southington, Conn.) responded in the bottom of the inning with a two-run homer of her own to give the Gulls a 2-1 lead. 

The Gulls extended that lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning. During the bottom of the sixth, Olivia Odermatt (Cheshire, Conn.) got on base with a fielder's choice before rounding home on a triple to right center from Gina DeMilt (Princeton, N.J.) to secure the 4-1 win. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Maggie Oram (Lexington, Mass.) improved to 6-1 on the season with the win for the Gulls (7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 S0, 1 HR). 
  • Paige Uliase (Meriden, Conn.) was credited with the loss for the Golden Bears (6 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 1 SO, 1 HR). 
  • Leading the Gulls offensively were Meg Power (Shrewsbury, Mass.) who went 2-for-3 at the plate and Arduini who was 1-for-2 with three RBI. 

ENDICOTT 4, WNE 3

Western New England once again took the lead early, this time in the top of the first when Sydney Pounds (Milford, Mass.) tripled to right field and then scored on an error. 

The Golden Bears tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning to take the 3-0 lead. 

In the bottom of the fifth, the Gulls cut the deficit to 3-2, highlighted by singles from Peyton Atkins (Goshen, N.Y.) and Carly Marchitto (Orange, Conn.).

Endicott capitalized on several walks and stolen bases during the bottom of the sixth to eventually score on a past ball and tie the game at 3-3. 

Marchitto got the Gulls started in the seventh inning with a double to right center to get into scoring position. DeMilt drove Marchitto home with a single to hand Endicott the comeback victory. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Leading the Endicott offense throughout the contest was Marchitto, who was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. 
  • Laura Somerville (Suffield, Conn.) earned the win to improve to 4-1 overall (7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO). 
  • Odermatt, Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.), Atkins, and Arduini all had one stolen base during the game. 
  • Aimee Kistner (Taunton, Mass.) shifted to 8-3 on the season with the loss (6.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 2 SO). 
  • The Gulls lead the all-time series against the Golden Bears, 25-13.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (14-4, 6-0 CCC) travels to Salem State on Thursday, April 10 for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3 PM. Western New England (13-9, 3-3 CCC) hosts Salve Regina at 12 PM and 2 PM on Saturday, April 13.
