Softball Goes 2-0 On Day Three Of Spring Break Trip

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Endicott softball team earned a pair of wins against Thomas (Me.), 3-2, and Rutgers-Newark, 9-3, on Wednesday afternoon at the Legends Way Complex.

ENDICOTT 3, THOMAS (ME.) 2

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Endicott walked-off against the Terriers on a two-out bases loaded double to right field off the bat of Gina DeMilt (Princeton, N.J.).

Hayley Arduini (Southington, Conn.) got the rally started with a leadoff double to right center before a sac bunt, a walk, a steal and another walk eventually loaded the bases for DeMilt's heroics.

Meanwhile, Michaela Hamill (Lynn, Mass.) earned the victory (2-1) with a complete-game effort in the circle (6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Jamie Hopgood (Warwick, R.I.) drove in the Gulls' first run of the contest in the second inning on a sac fly to center field for her sixth RBI of the season.
  • Endicott is 6-0 all-time against Thomas (Me.).
  • The last four games in the contest have been decided by one run.

ENDICOTT 9, RUTGERS-NEWARK 3

Endicott starter Laura Somerville (Suffield, Conn.) remained undefeated in the circle (2-0) via five strong innings of work, six hits, three runs (all earned), three walks, and four strikeouts.

Maggie Oram (Lexington, Mass.) also collected the third save of her career on two innings pitched, one hit, no walks, and a game-high six strikeouts.

After falling behind 3-1 in the second inning, the Gulls bounced back with three runs in the fourth, two more in the sixth, and another three-spot in the seventh to come away with the win.

The fourth inning featured a two-run double by Olivia Odermatt (Cheshire, Conn.) and a RBI double by DeMilt, while Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.) knocked in two runs in the sixth with a line drive single to first base.

Odermatt, DeMilt, and Hopgood went on to cap the scoring in the seventh with a double, a triple, and another double, respectively.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 2-0 all-time against Rutgers-Newark.
  • Carly Marchitto (Orange, Conn.) put the Gulls on the scoreboard first with a RBI double to right center in the second inning. The double was the first of her career.
  • Endicott's lineup produced 13 hits in the win. It marks the fourth time this season the Gulls have notched 10 or more hits (3-1).

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (5-1) takes on Wesleyan (Conn.) and Trinity (Conn.) tomorrow in Clermont, Florida at the Hancock Recreational Complex at 1:30 and 3:45 PM, respectively.
