CLERMONT, Fla. – The Endicott softball team posted a 1-1 record on day two of its spring break trip to Florida. In game one of the day, the Gulls defeated Framingham State, 3-2, but fell to Bowdoin, 8-7 (8 inn.), in game two of the afternoon.

ENDICOTT 3, FRAMINGHAM STATE 2

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Endicott rallied for three runs on a two-run single by Jamie Hopgood (Warwick, R.I.) and a wild pitch on an intentional walk attempt to win the contest.

The three-run seventh inning rally featured a leadoff single from Peyton Atkins (Goshen, N.Y.), followed by a double down the left field line by Olivia Odermatt (Cheshire, Conn.) and an infield single via Gina DeMilt (Princeton, N.J.) to set up the bases loaded, no outs situation for Hopgood.

Meanwhile, Laura Somerville (Suffield, Conn.) earned the win (1-0) on seven innings pitched, six hits, two runs (both earned), three walks, and a game-high nine strikeouts.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 4-1 all-time against Framingham State.
  • Somerville collected her 22nd career win and 175th career strikeout.

BOWDOIN 8, ENDICOTT 7 (8 inn.)

Game two of the day went back and forth the entire way until Bowdoin walked off on a wild pitch in the eighth inning.

In the top of the first inning, Endicott jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a throwing error, a bases loaded hit-by-pitch and a fielder's choice RBI with the bases juiced as well.

The Gulls also tacked on another run in the third inning when Hopgood launched a solo shot over the fence in right center.

Bowdoin answered in the fourth inning, however, with five runs - highlighted by a grand slam - to claim a 5-4 advantage.

The Gulls didn't go down quietly though as Endicott bounced back with three runs in the fifth via an Adrianna Favreau (Tewksbury, Mass.) RBI double and a two-run double to right center from Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.).

Despite the comeback effort from Endicott, the Polar Bears responded once more with two runs in the fifth (two-run single) before they walked it off in the eighth inning.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Molly O'Neill (Shrewsbury, Mass.) made her collegiate debut in the circle.
  • Hopgood's home run was the sixth of her career and the first for the Gulls this season.
  • She finished the day going 5-for-8 with two runs scored, a homer, one RBI, and a walk.
