ENDICOTT COLLEGE PROGRAMS OF STUDY | INTERNSHIPS AND CAREERS

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College is a pioneer in requiring comprehensive internship experiences in every program of study for undergraduate students. Here's a look into softball student-athlete and liberal studies/education major Hayley Arduini's '19 (Southington, Conn.) internship experience at Harborlight Montessori

ECGULLS: Describe your overall internship experience.

ARDUINI: I am doing my internship at Harborlight Montessori right in Beverly. I can honestly say that overall my internship experience has been absolutely amazing! The faculty have been so welcoming right from the start and they are really onboard with making sure I get the most out of this experience. I have never worked in a Montessori school before, so everything is new to me and I am taking it all in. I feel like I am making different connections with each of my students and I am already making a positive impact on them.

ECGULLS: What have you learned from your internship?

ARDUINI: For just the short amount of time that I have been at Harborlight Montessori, I have already learned so much. At Harborlight, they really respect and nurture each child's natural curiosity and unfolding personality. I have learned that not all students learn the same, and what works for one student may not work for another.

ECGULLS: How will this internship help you in your career moving forward?

ARDUINI: This internship will help me in my career moving forward because I can include some of what I am learning in a Montessori classroom, in my public school classroom one day. They use so many different materials and manipulative objects that I can really see myself using in my own classroom once I graduate.

THE ENDICOTT INTERNSHIP MODEL

A philosophy of "learning by doing" permeates the college curriculum in which students are encouraged to integrate theory and practice in all of their studies.

Through their experiences in internships students will be prepared to:

  • Apply, integrate, and evaluate knowledge within a particular academic discipline
  • Develop competencies for careers and community service
  • Explore career options and gain field experience
  • Foster personal growth through increased self-confidence, interpersonal skills, an understanding of self and others, and a heightened awareness of ethical standards
  • Improve the ability to learn in a self-directed manner

"The Endicott internship model allows students to have multiple opportunities throughout their college experience to discover their passions, bolster career confidence, and develop a marketable skill set while creating a professional network that will serve them well after graduation," said Endicott's Dean of the Internship and Career Center Eric Hall. "Endicott students leave with the career-readiness competencies and passion needed to excel in today's workforce."
