Endicott Tops UNE In Conference Doubleheader

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Endicott softball team traveled to the University of New England on Monday afternoon and came away with a doubleheader sweep. 

GAME ONE: Endicott 7, UNE 4

Endicott took a 1-0 lead in its first at-bat and never looked back as the Gulls went on to a 7-4 victory in the opening contest. 

Highlighting the offense throughout the game were Olivia Odermatt (Cheshire, Conn.) and Lindsee Allienello (East Providence, R.I.) with a home run each and Jamie Hopgood (Warwick, R.I) with two doubles. 

The Nor'easters tried for a late comeback in the seventh inning by tallying four runs but the Gulls were able to shut down any further scoring attempts to secure the 7-4 win. 

Michaela Hamill (Lynn, Mass.) earned the start on the mound and improved to 8-1 on the season with the win. 

GAME TWO: Endicott 8, UNE 2 

After two scoreless innings, the Gulls got on the board first with three runs in the top of the third. Peyton Atkins (Goshen, N.Y.) got the offense started with a single up the middle and then advanced to second on a bunt from Allienello. Gina DeMilt (Princeton, N.J.) also laid down a successful bunt to load the bases before Hopgood hit a sacrifice fly to send Atkins home. Two more runs went on to score when Adrianna Favreau (Tewksbury, Mass.) ripped a double to center field. 

Endicott extended its lead to 7-0 in the fifth inning, capped off by a three-run homer to left field from Odermatt. 

UNE responded with two tallies in the fifth as well to snap the shutout and cut the deficit to 7-2. 

The Gulls finished out the contest with one last run in the top of the sixth to complete the doubleheader sweep. 

Rylie Strong (Arvada, Colo.) earned the win on the mound and improved to 2-1 on the season. She struck out three batters while allowing only three hits and two runs. Laura Somerville (Suffield, Conn.) came in to finish out the game and recorded two strikeouts. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (26-4, 14-2 CCC) finishes out CCC play on Tuesday, April 24 with a doubleheader against Wentworth starting at 3 p.m. UNE (17-17, 10-8 CCC) hosts Bowdoin on Tuesday, April 24 to finish out the regular season.
