BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott softball team swept its conference doubleheader with Roger Williams on Friday evening as the Gulls took game one, 6-5, and game two, 5-4.

GAME ONE: Endicott 6, Roger Williams 5

Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Endicott exploded for four runs and eventually held on for the game one win.

Danielle Stratton (Agawam, Mass.) knocked in the Gulls' first run with an RBI single to left field, while Kayla Sheldon (Burlington, Mass.) followed with a two-run double to left to even the score at 5-5. Gina DeMilt (Princeton, N.J.) then capitalized on the newfound momentum in the next at-bat with an RBI double to left field to score Sheldon and give Endicott its second and final lead of the contest.

Roger Williams did threaten in the top of the seventh, but Michaela Hamill (Lynn, Mass.) worked her way out of a one-out, two-on jam (first/second) with a 4-3 double play to secure the victory and her second save of the season. Maggie Oram (Lexington, Mass.) was credited with the win (6-1) on 6 1/3 innings, nine hits, five runs (all earned), three walks, and four strikeouts.

Rachel Wandzilak (West Islip, N.Y.) took the loss (1-7) via 5 2/3 innings pitched, 10 hits, six runs (all earned), and one walk.

GAME TWO: Endicott 5, Roger Williams 4

The Gulls fought back from a 3-1 deficit after the first inning to secure the series sweep over Roger Williams.

Endicott rallied for four runs in the fifth inning, led by a three run homerun from Olivia Odermatt (Cheshire, Conn.) to gain the lead.

The Hawks would add one more run in the top of the seventh but it wasn't enough as the Gulls held onto the 5-4 victory.

Hamill pitched all seven innings for the Gulls and improved to 5-1 on the season. She recorded seven strikeouts while allowing five hits and three walks.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • Leading the Gulls offensively throughout both games was DeMilt, who went 4-for-8 from the plate with two RBI.
  • In the first game, Stratton and Lindsee Allienello (East Providence, R.I.) each went 2-for-3 offensively with one RBI.
  • Odermatt also had a great defensive game in the nightcap as she executed a diving catch in center field during the top of the third inning to keep the Hawks off the board.
  • In game two, catcher Peyton Atkins (Goshen, N.Y.) had a diving catch in foul territory to help the Gulls record a 1-2-3 inning in the sixth.
