SALEM, Mass. — The Endicott softball team posted a pair of wins against Salem State this afternoon. The Gulls won the first game, 9-7, and the second 7-4.

GAME ONE: Endicott 9, Salem State 7

Salem State took a 2-0 lead in the first at-bat but the Gulls would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning. Jamie Hopgood (Warwick, R.I.) walked to get on base and then advanced to third on a fielding error in a later at-bat. Adrianna Favreau (Tewksbury, Mass.) hit a single to send Hopgood home.

The Vikings would add one more run in the third to take the 3-1 lead.

Endicott, however, exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third to gain the lead for good.

Salem State would attempt a rally with four runs in the fourth inning but the Gulls added an insurance run of their own in the bottom of the fourth. They then held the Vikings scoreless for the remainder of the game to secure the victory.

Laura Somerville (Suffield, Conn.) got the start on the mound and pitched three innings with one strikeout. Maggie Oram (Lexington, Mass.) came in for the remainder of the game and improved to 5-1 on the season with the win. She struck out six batters while allowing only four hits.

GAME TWO: Endicott 7, Salem State 4

The Vikings once again struck early in the first to take a 1-0 lead.

Endicott responded with two runs in each of the second, third, and fourth innings to gain the upper hand. The offensive effort was led by Favreau who blasted a two-run homer to center field in the bottom of the third.

In the final three innings, Salem State scored three runs to Endicott's one but it wouldn't be enough to overtake the Gull's lead.

Mikaela Mallozzi (Shelton, Conn.) got the win on the mound and improved to 1-0 on the season. Michaela Hamill (Lynn, Mass.) came in for the last two innings and earned her first save of the year.
