BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott softball team swept Lesley University by scores of 10-6 and 4-1 in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.
GAME ONE: Endicott 10, Lesley 6
Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the second, the Gulls rallied for five runs on a two-run double from Julia McNeill (Smithtown, N.Y.) and a three-run blast to left field by Emily Sharpe (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) to take a 5-4 lead. Endicott then maintained that advantage the rest of the way.
Endicott also tacked on a run in third on an error, and two more in the fourth and sixth innings, respectively. Hannah Llewellyn (Danvers, Mass.) highlighted the scoring down the stretch with a two-run single in the fourth, and an RBI base knock in the sixth. Margaret Martzolf (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.) drove in the Gulls' final run of game one with a double to left center that scored Llewellyn from second.
Michaela Hamill (Lynn, Mass.) improved to 6-1 in the circle on seven innings pitched, 11 hits, six runs (all earned), zero walks, and five strikeouts.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott collected 15 hits in game one, which included a 4-for-4 performance out of Sharpe. The junior catcher also scored one run and had three RBI.
- McNeill finished 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI out of the leadoff spot, while Llewellyn, Danielle Stratton (Agawam, Mass.) and Olivia Odermatt (Cheshire, Conn.) also notched multi-hit games. Odermatt is currently tied for the most multi-hit games on the squad with eight.
- Jamie Hopgood (Warwick, R.I.) saw her streak of reaching base safely end at 18 games (team-high). She's also tied with Odermatt for the most multi-hit games on the team.
FOR THE FOES
- Lesley scored four runs in the second on a two-run double Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.), an error, and a solo shot to dead center by Mekenzi Golden (Laguna Niguel, Calif.).
- The Lynx added two more in seventh via an RBI double by Pereira and a run-producing single from Abby Henderson (Rochester, N.H.).
- Sarah Bushman (Aurora, Colo.) took the loss (5-6) on 3 2/3 innings, 11 hits, eight runs (seven earned), three free passes, and four strikeouts.
- Carlyn Barker (Temecula, Calif.) finished game one 3-for-4 at the plate from the three-spot in the lineup.
- Meanwhile, Pereira was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI.
GAME TWO: Endicott 4, Lesley 1
Laura Somerville (Suffield, Conn.) stymied Lesley in a complete game, seven strikeout effort to run Endicott's winning streak to 10 straight games. Somerville scattered seven hits in the start, allowed one unearned run, and walked one for her eighth victory of the season (8-4).
Alyson Nisbet (Clovis, Calif.) received the loss (4-7) over six frames in the circle, 11 hits, four runs (one earned), three walks, and one punchout.
The Gulls struck first in bottom of the first with two runs on a three base throwing error and an RBI single down the left field line by Cassidy Dvorsky (Estero, Fla.).
In the third, Lesley cut into its deficit with one run in the top half on a fielding error but Endicott responded with an insurance run in the bottom half on a Gina DeMilt (Princeton Junction, N.J.) bases loaded RBI infield single.
Somerville closed the door over the final four innings for Endicott as only two runners reached scoring position for the Lynx during that time frame.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- With the sweep, Endicott improved to 5-1 in the all-time series versus Lesley.
- Martzolf went 3-for-4 with three blistering singles to the left side of the field. It marks her second multi-hit game this season.
- Madison Mucci (Danvers, Mass.), Dvorsky, and DeMilt also registered multi-hit games giving Endicott 58 total as a team on the year.
- Sharpe and Martzolf are now tied for the longest active hitting streak on the team at eight games.
FOR THE FOES
- Nisbet and Pereira both went 2-for-3 in the loss.
- Lesley is 7-7 on the road this season. The Lynx have only played three games at home (2-1) in 2017.
