WESTON, MA - The Endicott College Softball team's bats came to life in a big way on Saturday as EC trounced Regis College, 14-0 and 16-1 in a double-header in Weston, MA.

Freshman hurler Maria Mangine (Lockport, NY/Lockport) threw a one-hit five inning shutout in game one of the afternoon for the Gulls, striking out six in the outing. The rookie helped her own cause hitting a three-run homer in the fourth inning. Sophomore Meghan Sargent (Salisbury, MA/Triton) started the day's power hitting clinic with a deep center-field two-run bomb in the second inning. Not to be outdone, junior designated hitter Rachel Pearson (Gales Ferry, CT/Ledyard) hit a two-run round-tripper of her own, in the third inning to give Endicott the 6-0 edge.

Game two featured much of the same. As sophomore Jackie Collier (Swampscott, MA/Bishop Fenwick) threw a complete game, six-hit, 10 strikeout gem, while Sargent and Pearson once again provided the offensive spark. Pearson blasted her second homer of the day, this time a grand-slam to center-field, putting the Gulls up 9-0 in the fourth. Sargent followed it up with a three-run homer to left, for her second round tripper of the day.

Sargent finished the day 5-for-6 with two home runs, five runs scored and eight runs batted in, while Pearson went 3-for-8 with two home runs, three runs scored and six RBI.

The victories evened the Gulls Commonwealth Coast Conference record to 2-2 and improved their overall record to 9-5. With the losses Regis falls to 1-13 overall, and 0-4 in the CCC.

Endicott hosts the University of New England on Sunday afternoon in a CCC double-header, with the first pitch scheduled for noon in Beverly, MA. Regis travels to Boston, MA. to face Wentworth Institute of Technology in a twin-bill beginning at 1:00pm.
