Men’s Volleyball Closes Out 2019 Season With No. 5 National Ranking, Highest In Program History

2019 FINAL AVCA COACHES POLL

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's volleyball program has been ranked No. 5 in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Coaches Poll for the 2019 season, as announced by the organization yesterday.

The No. 5 national ranking for the Gulls is the highest in program history. The previous program record was No. 6, which was set on March 9, 2010.

Yesterday's announcement also marks the fifth time that Endicott has been ranked in a year-end AVCA Coaches Poll. Meanwhile, the best national ranking to end a season prior to this was No. 12, which has happened twice in program history (2003, 2010).

"To be ranked in the top-five is a true testament to the dedication and the hard work that all 18 men put into this season, and into their careers here," said Endicott men's volleyball head coach George Chapell '08. "We were playing our best ball at the time of the year you want to peak, and as a coaching staff, we are proud of everything they accomplished. This was the next step forward for our program, and we are excited about what lies ahead."

YEAR IN REVIEW

The 2019 campaign (26-7 overall, 13-1 NECC) was a banner year for Endicott as the Gulls captured their sixth New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) title with a 3-1 road victory over then-No. 5 Elms on April 13.

Endicott followed up that win with an NCAA Tournament first round triumph against St. Joseph's (L.I.), 3-1, before the eventual NCAA Tournament champion, SUNY New Paltz, knocked off the Gulls in the quarterfinals by a 3-2 score.

Endicott's 26 wins in 2019 also ranks second-most in program history behind the 2010 campaign (28-8).
