NCAA TOURNAMENT: No. 4 SUNY New Paltz Edges No. 8 Endicott In Five-Set Thriller

ENDICOTT POST MATCH PRESS CONFERENCE

BEVERLY, Mass. – The No. 8 nationally ranked Endicott men's volleyball team fell to No. 4 SUNY New Paltz, 3-2, by scores of 21-25, 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, and 17-19 in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal round on Saturday night at MacDonald Gymnasium.

With the win, the Hawks (26-7) will play Springfield College, the two-time defending national champion, in the NCAA Tournament semifinals on Friday, April 26 (time TBD).

Meanwhile, Endicott sees its historic season come to a close at 26-7 overall. The Gulls' 2019 campaign featured the second-most wins in program history and victories over the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 15 teams in the country, at the time.

As for tonight's match, Endicott was led by senior Jeremy Doski (Sandy Hook, Conn.) who compiled his first career triple-double via 11 kills (.368), 31 assists, and 11 digs.

The Gulls also saw Donovan Dey (Fairport, N.Y.) registered 19 kills and four digs, Bryn Lipton (Rockford, Ill.) put together 16 kills (.400), nine digs, and five blocks (two solo), and Chad Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) dish out 23 assists.

Defensively, Ryan Healy (Fair Lawn, N.J.) posted a team-high 12 digs, while Seth Braquet (Destrehan, La.) notched seven digs and six block assists – to go along with five kills – to round out the list of highlights.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Tonight's match featured 15 tie scores and five lead changes.
  • Five of the 15 ties came in the fifth set.
  • New Paltz rallied from an 8-2 deficit at the switchover in the fifth set to come away with the win.

YEAR IN REVIEW

Endicott went 26-7 overall and 13-1 in conference play en route to winning the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) championship over Elms, 3-1, on the road. The Gulls also ranked as high as seventh overall in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national poll.
