No. 12 Men’s Volleyball Tops Nichols & Newbury, 3-0

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The No. 12 nationally ranked Endicott men's volleyball team claimed a pair of 3-0 conference victories over Nichols and Newbury on Saturday afternoon at Hellenic College.

In their first match of the day, the Gulls defeated Nichols by scores of 25-22, 25-14, and 25-14, while in the nightcap, Endicott bested Newbury 25-19, 25-16, and 25-14.

NO. 12 ENDICOTT 3, NICHOLS 0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-15)

The Gulls' offense featured five student-athletes with five or more kills in the win. That group included Erich Roman (Glastonbury, Conn.), Donovan Dey (Fairport, N.Y.), Matt Cruz (Easton, Conn.), Jacob Newman (Chester, N.H.), and Seth Braquet (Destrehan, La.).

Roman led the squad with a match-high 10 kills, while Dey had nine, and Cruz and Newman both had seven. Braquet rounded out the group with six putaways.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Today's match featured 14 ties and five lead changes.
  • Twelve of those ties and four of those lead changes came in the first set.
  • Endicott is 2-0 against Nichols all-time.
  • Chad Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) dished out a match-high/season-high 28 assists.
  • It also marks Riorden's fourth match this season where he has produced 20 or more assists.
  • The Gulls, who posted a .338 hitting percentage today, are 10-0 on the year when hitting .300 or above on the year.

NO. 12 ENDICOTT 3, NEWBURY 0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-14)

Much like the first match of the day, Endicott also saw five student-athletes post five or more kills against Newbury.

This time, Dey paced the group with nine putaways, while Matt Bozek (Exeter, N.H.) had eight kills, and Roman, Newman, and Conner Holland (Derry, N.H.) all connected for five kills apiece.

Devin Racey (Voorheesville, N.Y.) ran the majority of the offense with a match-high 19 assists. Riorden also added 17 assists in the victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Today's match featured 14 ties and five lead changes (seven ties/three lead changes in the first).
  • Endicott is 34-10 all-time against Newbury.
  • The Gulls hit .322 as a team in the match to move their record to 11-0 on the year when hitting at a .300 clip or better.
  • Endicott has won three matches in a row.
