ENDICOTT COLLEGE PROGRAMS OF STUDY | INTERNSHIPS AND CAREERS

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College is a pioneer in requiring comprehensive internship experiences in every program of study for undergraduate students. Here's a look into men's volleyball student-athlete and business management major/applied mathematics minor Ryan Healy's '19 (Fair Lawn N.J.) internship experience at New Balance

ECGULLS: Describe your overall internship experience.

HEALY: So far my internship experience has been nothing but amazing. I am the Retail Merchandise Planner intern at New Balance. Every day, I get to work with Excel, analyzing the data and giving recommendations on business decisions. I have a very supportive team around me that have been helping me through any issues I might have.

ECGULLS: What have you learned from your internship?

HEALY: I have learned many things since I have been here. My Excel skills have increased immensely. I can now do certain tasks in Excel that I never knew how to do before. I have also learned that it is okay to ask questions. I was scared to ask questions during my first two internships and I was foolish for thinking that. My first week at New Balance, I was encouraged to ask as many questions as possible. They would stop meetings to make sure I understood what was being discussed. I feel very comfortable asking for help and am not afraid to do so.

ECGULLS: How will this internship help you in your career moving forward?

HEALY: I have always had an analytical mind, but have never had the opportunity to utilize this skill at my internship site. I have had practice with analytics throughout my time here making recommendations after analyzing data sets. I even got to create those data sets, which I enjoyed doing. I thought coming into my semester-long internship that I would want to find a career where I could create and analyze large sets of data, and be able to explain my findings. This internship, thus far, has confirmed that this is something that I would want to do for the rest of my life.

THE ENDICOTT INTERNSHIP MODEL

A philosophy of "learning by doing" permeates the college curriculum in which students are encouraged to integrate theory and practice in all of their studies.

Through their experiences in internships students will be prepared to:

  • Apply, integrate, and evaluate knowledge within a particular academic discipline
  • Develop competencies for careers and community service
  • Explore career options and gain field experience
  • Foster personal growth through increased self-confidence, interpersonal skills, an understanding of self and others, and a heightened awareness of ethical standards
  • Improve the ability to learn in a self-directed manner

"The Endicott internship model allows students to have multiple opportunities throughout their college experience to discover their passions, bolster career confidence, and develop a marketable skill set while creating a professional network that will serve them well after graduation," said Endicott's Dean of the Internship and Career Center Eric Hall. "Endicott students leave with the career-readiness competencies and passion needed to Excel in today's workforce."
