SPORTS IMPORTS/AVCA NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK RELEASE

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott sophomore outside hitter Bryn Lipton (Rockford, Ill.) has been named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Men's Division III National Player of the Week.

Lipton guided Endicott to a 3-0 week at the Johnson & Wales University (JWU) Invitational last weekend by averaging 4.50 kills per set (36 total), a .379 hitting percentage (36-11-56), 1.75 digs/set (14 total), 1.25 blocks/set (10 total, 4 solo, 6 assisted), and 5.50 points/set in eight sets played. Lipton also was a perfect 52-for-52 on serve-receive on the week. Additionally, nine of his 14 digs led to kills, and 19 of his 52 receptions translated directly to kills.

Meanwhile against Baruch (3-0) on Friday, January 26, Lipton compiled 15 kills on 23 swings for a .565 hitting percentage to go along with one service ace, five digs, and a 19-for-19 showing on serve-receive. Lipton followed that performance up with 16 kills, six digs, and six total blocks (two solo, four assisted) versus Hunter (3-0) later that night before he added five kills (.571), one assist, three digs, and four total blocks (two solo, two assisted) against Mt. St. Vincent (3-2) on Saturday in two sets played.

On the season, Lipton currently ranks No. 12 in the country in points per set (4.47) and blocks per set (1.200), No. 24 in kills/set (3.47), and No. 53 in hitting percentage (.298).

This is the fourth time an Endicott student-athlete takes home Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honors, and just the second student-athlete overall. The other was Endicott Hall of Famer A.J. Witkofsky '10 (Scotia, N.Y.), who won it three times (March 31, 2008; February 1, 2010; February 22, 2010). It also marks the second week in a row a student-athlete from the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) has received Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week honors as Elms' freshman outside hitter Jeremy Torres (Juncos, Puerto Rico) collected the award on January 23, 2018.
