BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men’s volleyball team swept NECC rival Southern Vermont and suffered a heart-breaking five-set loss to Stevenson in their second match on day one of the Endicott Invitational.  The Gulls will move on to day two where they will face SUNYIT (12PM) and Vassar (4PM).

Match One vs Southern Vermont

Box Score

The Blue and Green handed conference foe Southern Vermont a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-21) defeat in their first match of the day behind a 10-kill, six-block effort by junior right side Matt Devendorf (Glastonbury, Conn.) and a match-high 12 kills from senior outside Jeremy Siden (Natick, Mass.).

Devendorf and Siden’s offensive outbursts were part of an overall .326 hitting percentage clip by the Gulls.  Sophomores Brennan Lowe (Malibu, Calif.) and Kevin Duggan (Glastonbury, Conn.) each added five kills apiece in the win.

Endicott was also strong defensively, totaling 10 team blocks with both Devendorf and senior Joshua Bruno (Andover, Mass.) amassed a match-high six stops at the net.  Libero Andrew Slocum (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) led all players with 10 digs with Siden and Bruno each having six.

Setters Jeremy Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) and Carter Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) were both effective with 21 and 13 assists, respectively.

Match Two vs Stevenson

Box Score

Despite taking the first two sets convincingly 25-17 and 25-18, the Gulls dropped a five-set match to Stevenson (17-25, 18-25, 25-15, 25-16, 17-15) to fall to 11-12 overall on the season.  Siden added another 15 kills and 14 assists, but the Gulls could not overcome Stevenson’s furious comeback.

Devendorf was a factor again with 12 kills and two blocks, freshman Thomas Stoeckinger (Malibu, Calif.) recorded 11 kills on a .455 hitting percentage with two blocks, and Schlosser dished out 31 assists with nine digs for the Gulls.

Sophomore defensive specialist Aaron Jessee (Okinawa, Japan) came up big with eight digs with Slocum adding seven more.  Bruno had three block assists and Duggan had one solo and two assisted blocks in the loss.
