BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men’s
volleyball team swept NECC rival Southern Vermont and suffered a
heart-breaking five-set loss to Stevenson in their second match on
day one of the Endicott Invitational. The Gulls will move on
to day two where they will face SUNYIT (12PM) and Vassar (4PM).

The Blue and Green handed conference foe Southern Vermont a 3-0
(25-17, 25-15, 25-21) defeat in their first match of the day behind
a 10-kill, six-block effort by junior right side Matt
Devendorf (Glastonbury, Conn.) and a match-high 12 kills
from senior outside Jeremy Siden (Natick,
Mass.).
Devendorf and Siden’s offensive outbursts were part of an
overall .326 hitting percentage clip by the Gulls. Sophomores
Brennan Lowe (Malibu, Calif.) and Kevin
Duggan (Glastonbury, Conn.) each added five kills apiece
in the win.
Endicott was also strong defensively, totaling 10 team blocks with
both Devendorf and senior Joshua Bruno (Andover,
Mass.) amassed a match-high six stops at the net.
Libero Andrew Slocum (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) led all
players with 10 digs with Siden and Bruno each having
six.
Setters Jeremy Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) and
Carter Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) were both
effective with 21 and 13 assists, respectively.
Match Two vs Stevenson

Despite taking the first two sets convincingly 25-17 and 25-18,
the Gulls dropped a five-set match to Stevenson (17-25, 18-25,
25-15, 25-16, 17-15) to fall to 11-12 overall on the season.
Siden added another 15 kills and 14 assists, but the Gulls could
not overcome Stevenson’s furious comeback.
Devendorf was a factor again with 12 kills and two blocks,
freshman Thomas Stoeckinger (Malibu, Calif.)
recorded 11 kills on a .455 hitting percentage with two blocks, and
Schlosser dished out 31 assists with nine digs for the
Gulls.
Sophomore defensive specialist Aaron Jessee (Okinawa,
Japan) came up big with eight digs with Slocum adding
seven more. Bruno had three block assists and Duggan had one
solo and two assisted blocks in the loss.
