Endicott wins battle of undefeated NECC teams 3-1 over Elms

BEVERLY, Mass. - 
The Endicott men's volleyball team recorded 15 blocks as a team and saw senior Jeremy Siden (Natick, Mass.) and junior Matt Devendorf (Glastonbury, Conn.) strike eight kills each in a 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 18-25, 25-15) over Elms on Saturday afternoon.

Coming into the match, both teams were 4-0 in New England Collegiate Conference play but Endicott (7-5, 5-0 NECC) prevailed to remain unbeaten.  Elms dropped to 9-5 (4-1 NECC) on the season. 

Six Gulls recorded at least four blocks as Endicott was able to counter the Blazers attack all match long.  Senior Joshua Bruno (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Josh Anderson (La Canada, Calif.) led all players with five assisted blocks each while freshman Thomas Stoeckinger (Malibu, Calif.) had four assisted stops with one solo block at the net.  Siden, Brennan Lowe (Malibu, Calif.) and Travis Netherton (Waukegan, Ill.) all had four block assists. 

The Blue and Green also were effective on the receive as Elms' hard-hitting servers tallied just two aces.  Senior Andrew Slocum (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) was a perfect 19-for-19 in service receptions while also leading the team in digs with 13.  Siden, who had just two errors in 30 reception opportunities, added 10 digs to his strong offensive effort.  

Setters Jeremy Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) and Carter Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) found eight different Gulls attackers for kills to the tune of 22 and 15 assists, respectively.  Bruno and Stoeckinger each had five kills while Anderson and Lowe tallied four apiece.  

Elms had two players in double figures for kills including senior outside Yonalvy Acosta (Holyoke, Mass.) who had a match-high 14 kills.  Freshman Angel Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) added 11 kills for the Blazers.  Sophomore Daniel Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) set 43 assists for his teammates while contributing with three kills of his own.  

The Gulls will be in action on Wednesday, February 29th at 8:00 pm at NECC opponent Lesley.  That match will be played at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
