Gulls Soar Past Lasell and Bard

Newton, MA - The Gulls improved to 10-5 overall and 7-2 in NECVA play today, picking up a pair of wins at Lasell College. In their first match of the day, the Gulls handed host Lasell a 3-0 loss (30-17, 30-26, 30-24). Then after a slow start in their second match vs. Bard, the Gulls played some of the most spirited ball they have played this season defeating Bard 3-1 (24-30, 30-26, 30-26, 30-16).

Match one saw the Gulls come out ready hitting .565% as a team in game one. George Chapell led the efficient attacking, knocking down 8 kills in 10 error free swings for an .800%. Jeremy Fontaine led the team with 9 kills and Matt Keepin again took advantage of his opportunities picking up 7 kills in the final two games. Russ Friedland handed out 36 assists and Fontaine picked up three of the Gulls 7 aces. Defensively, Brandon Ecker and Cory Merrill both picked up 10 digs and Fontaine led all blockers with 6.

In the second match of the day, the Gulls faced a very spirited Bard team and after hitting .088 in game one they settled down to hit .386 over the final three games. Fontaine pounded down 22 kills and was followed by Eddie Marchand's 14. Russ Friedland handed out 53 assists while picking up 5 blocks and Eric Hunter was the only player to pick up double-digit digs with 11. Chapell was again a force for the Gulls as his serving led to numerous scoring opportunities and a team high 3 aces.

The Gulls will return to action on Monday night at 7:00 PM when they will host Elms College in a NECVA New England matchup.
